New Developments In Dentistry |
| Many new procedures are recently successfully performed in dentistry as a result of the advances in science and technology. Some of these are listed below. |
- Cosmetic Dentistry
The latest development in this area is the procera technique which is produced in Sweden thru computer technology. These metal free zirconium supported porcelain crowns can be used both in anterior and posterior parts of the mouth. They are highly resistant to in-mouth pressures and the tooth-crown relationship is perfect.
- Dental Implants
The latest develeopment in implant dentistry is the reduction in the osseointegration (the integration of the implant with the bone) period from three-six months to zero when certain conditions are fullfilled. Thus people wearing full dentures can have their stable temporary dentures immediately.
Moreover, as a result of the developments in the technical designs of implants, the implant surgery which was previously done in two stages can now be completed in one stage only. In cases when a second surgery is needed, this is done with the laser without cutting the tissue.
- Laser Dentistry
The latest technical development in dentistry is the expansion of the use of the laser energy. Laser energy, which was only used for soft tissue operations and teeth whitening until recently, can now be used for both hard tissues (including tooth enamel-the hardest tissue in human body) and soft tissues. The new laser is working with hydrokinetic principle which is based on a combination of atomized water with laser energy.
